Our Ingredients

At Pure Ratbag we think its important that you know what ingredients are in the products you are buying from us, and so below we have created a detailed list of the ingredients we use in our beautiful handmade products.
When browsing our products you will also see we have put a complete ingredient list for each individual product.

Purified Water

I use distilled water for making all of my soaps. By doing so I can ensure there are none of the impurities that may be found in standard tap water. Using distilled water essentially means that the water I use is as pure as I can get.
Water is an essential part of the soap making process, even though the majority of it evaporates during
the curing process.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is obtained from pressing the copra, which is coconut flesh.
Coconut Oil is known for its lathering and moisturizing properties. It’s an effective moisturiser all types of skin and it helps to prevent dryness. Coconut Oil is also known for helping to treat various skin problems and aids in delaying premature aging and wrinkling. Coconut Oil also adds a lovely lather and bubbles to soap.

Rice Bran Oil

Rice Bran Oil is extracted from the germ and inner husk of Rice.
Rice Bran oil is packed full of nutrients such as Vitamin E and antioxidants like Tocopherol, Oryzanol and Tocotrienol. Rice Bran Oil is gentle and suitable for even sensitive, dry and mature skin types and has wonderful moisturising qualities. It’s a natural stimulant of collagen production and a natural way to maintain proper skin tone balance. Rice Bran Oil is considered to be of great value in the beauty industry in many Asian countries.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is obtained from the pulp of olives.
Olive Oil is known for its healing properties as well as being a fantastic moisturiser because it attracts external moisture, holds the moisture close to the skin and forms a breathable film to prevent loss of internal moisture.
It does this while still allowing the skin to perform its normal functions.
Olive Oil is a great source of Vitamin E and other minerals.

Castor Oil

Castor Oil is expressed from the seed of the Castor Oil Plant, Ricinus Communis.
Castor Oil acts as a humectant by attracting and retaining moisture to the skin.
It is lubricating and soothing to the skin as it is rich in fatty acids.
Castor Oil adds to the lather of soap and helps create lovely bubbles.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is expressed from the pits of the fruit of the Mangifolia tree in central Africa.
Shea butter is gentle enough for babies and people with sensitive skin. It soothes and softens dry, chapped skin, while nourishing all skin types.
Shea butter is known for its healing properties and is full of Vitamin E, Vitamin A and other antioxidants, and contains natural UV sun protection.
Shea Butter moisturises the skin leaving it smooth, supple and soft.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter is obtained from Cocoa Beans of the Therobroma Cacao Tree.
Cocoa butter is a special conditioning oil that lays down a protective layer that holds moisture to the skin, making it a good skin softener.
It is a natural antioxidant that helps clear and smooth the skin and is a great source of Vitamin E.
It helps to nourish the skin, keeping it moisturized and revitalized.

Essential Oils

Essential Oils are natural plant oils that are extracted or distilled from various plants and trees. Some plants contain essential oils in their leaves or roots, others in their flowers, fruit, stem, bark or seeds. Each Essential Oil has a very distinct scent and we have used some as a single Oil on their own and some in a combination. We only use pure Essential Oils in our products in small skin safe quantities. We do not use diluted versions.
Essential Oils have long been known to contain positive healing, therapeutic and cosmetic properties and their use dates back as far as the days of Ancient Egypt.

Fragrance Oils

Even in the world of Natural products, there is always the demand for scents that simply cannot be made with Essential Oils alone. In order to provide a range of scents in our products, we have also incorporated the use of Fragrance Oils.
We only use Fragrance Oils of the highest quality and only use those that are classed as Cosmetic Grade and Skin Safe.
We only use Fragrance Oils in their Skin Safe recommended quantities, which is why some of our products may have a stronger scent than others.

Colours

We use a range of Colours in our products and all of them are classed as Skin Safe and Cosmetic Grade.
We use Oxides, Ultramarines, Mica’s and D & C (Drugs and Cosmetics) Colours.
Cosmetic Oxides are highly refined pigments and purified to make them suitable for use on the skin. Ultramarines are natural colour pigments derived from the mineral lapis lazuli. Mica is a silica based mineral.
For those who wish to not have any colours in their soap we have created a range of Essential Oils soaps that contain no added Colour.

At Pure Ratbag, we are very proud to say that we have taken time and care to formulate our skin nourishing products without the use of Palm Oil.

We are completely PALM OIL FREE.

We strongly believe that as an educated society, we need to make choices that not only consider the human race, but that also consider all other living creatures and our environment, if we are to help make the world a better place for future generations.
Whilst this choice has meant an increase in our own production costs, we believe it was a choice worth taking.
